Survey and Prediction Market Consent Form


You are being invited to participate in a research study on prediction markets in science. This study is being done by researchers at a number of universities, including Faisal Mushtaq at the University of Leeds. 


Purpose of research: To examine predictions of scientific results.


What you will do in this research: You will answer a survey about your beliefs and participate in a decision market.


Time required: The survey is expected to take about 60 minutes to complete. Participation in the prediction markets is up to you, so you can choose to spend something like an hour in the markets or more or less.


Risks: We believe there are no known risks associated with this research study. Your participation in this study will remain anonymous. We will not store your identity after you have been paid, and we will not collect your IP address. Your responses will be assigned an arbitrary code number. Spreadsheets on which the data are entered will contain no identifiable information, the anonymous data will later be posted online indefinitely, and the data will be available to other researchers. Your privacy will thus be maintained in all published and written data resulting from this study. We follow the European Union’s GDPR rules.  


Benefits: In the prediction market you will receive an initial endowment of $50 that can increase or decrease in value depending on your decisions. Once the prediction markets have closed, we will pay a charity of your choice USD $10 for your participation in the markets.


Participation and withdrawal: Your participation in this study is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time.
